Mirai and the Current State of IoT Security

The Mirai botnet, composed primarily of embedded and IoT devices, took the Internet by storm in late 2016 when it overwhelmed and censored high-profile websites with the largest distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on public record.

A Marauder's Map of Security and Privacy in Machine Learning

There is growing recognition that machine learning (ML) exposes new security and privacy vulnerabilities in software systems, yet the technical community's understanding of the nature and extent of these vulnerabilities remains limited but expanding.

Identification of attack vectors from behavioral graphs

We obtain very specific data, namely behavioral graphs that record extensive information about a run of a system. In the current project we aim at both classification of anomalous nodes and identification of an attack vector that lead to their appearance in the graph and thus to execution of anomalous behavior in the system.

Not All Anomalies Are Equal: Game-Theoretic Approach to Adversarial Anomaly Detection

Anomaly detection is commonly used for detecting malicious behavior, such as attacks in computer networks or fraud in financial operations. In these settings, criminals have clear incentives to maximize the effectiveness of their behavior, while minimizing the probability of detection.

Machine Learning Security: Adversarial Attacks and Defenses

It has been shown that data-driven AI and machine learning suffer from hallucinations known as adversarial examples, i.e., imperceptible, adversarial perturbations to images, text and audio that fool these systems into perceiving things that are not there.

Challenges and Opportunities in AI for Cyber Security and Cyber Deception

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence methods is having a profound impact on cybersecurity, and we can expect this trend to continue. The ability to process massive amounts of data to identify patterns and trends, and to make very complex automated decisions faster than any human can respond is becoming key to both attack and defense tactics.
